Since 1991, the Dalí Museum's catalogue has been a staple on the Bulfinch Press list. Deciding to publish a larger, completely revised, and more lavish edition was not done lightly.
Concept
The new book needed to accommodate all-new text about each work, thus requiring a larger trim size that would also show the reproductions to best effect. Vern Associates' approach meets these criteria while maintaining the earlier edition's trade appeal.
Design & Content
Our design enhances the presentation of Dalí's work, acting as a foil for its singular appearance. Art historian Robert Lubar's text is made to seem to inhabit the space organically, which relieves what otherwise could have made for a crowded, repetitive page grid.
Production
Once design and layout were complete, we delivered final electronic mechanicals to the client, which handled printing.
The Result
An elegant and inviting book for the nonspecialist; a respected, valuable resource for scholars; and an appropriate, respectful representation of the museum's collection and Dalí's aesthetic.
