Living in the Future

International House is a uniquely diverse residence and program center for graduate students, visiting scholars, interns, and trainees. Vern Associates was commissioned to find an author, then edit, design, and produce this engaging history of I. House.

Concept

Over a period of more than 75 years, the I. House experience has transformed the lives of more than 65,000 people. Its alumni include some of the world's most influential names in diplomacy, politics, art, and science. The author paid equal attention to both the events in I. House's history and the lives of celebrated alumni who helped this institution grow.

Design & Production

The challenge here was to present a chronological narrative interspersed with alumni profiles from each era in a small format without crowding each page. The profiles are accommodated by sidebars and the narrative progresses within the text area.

The Result

An open and elegantly designed book that appropriately reflects the character of this unique institution.
